Job Title: Senior Policy Associate

Location: This position requires residence in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The Senior Policy Associate will be fully remote on a daily basis. Candidates must be local and available for in-person meetings and events.

Compensation: The salary range for this role is $140,000 to $180,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Competitive benefits are provided, including: 401(k) plan, comprehensive health benefits, and generous paid time off and sick leave policies.

Position Overview

The Policy Associate position will focus on supporting the team and administration of the firm, and the new team member will have every opportunity to grow in a fast-paced, successful, and innovative organization.

The Policy Associate will work primarily with our portfolio of clients on international affairs issues, including global health, foreign assistance, international trade, and commercial policy. The Policy Associate will provide comprehensive support in client services, planning and execution of meetings and events, outreach tracking, research and analysis, and other duties.

Position Responsibilities

  • Client Services 

    1. Support and lead advocacy efforts before Congress and the executive branch on firm and client policy priorities.

    2. Co-manage annual appropriations process advocacy activities with other members of KHG team

    3. Develop and maintain relationships with a network of USG officials and staff in the legislative and executive branches.

    4. Manage day-to-day operations, note-taking, follow up, and action item tracking for the firm’s clients.

    5. Develop strong understanding of key priorities for clients and build subject matter expertise to advance client objectives.

    6. Draft policy summaries, legislation, Dear Colleague letters, memoranda, and proposals for Partners and clients.

    7. Ongoing review and tracking of subscription publications, websites, and media to provide firm and client updates

    8. Monitor and draft summary notes for Congressional hearings and markups, association events, and think tank programs regarding areas of interest to the firm and its clients.

    9. Prepare itineraries and manage trip logistics for client visits and meetings in DC.

  • Team Support

    1. Conduct research, schedule meetings, and prepare briefing materials for meetings, trips, and events.

    2. Accompany Partners and clients to meetings, manage logistics, take notes, and prepare meeting summaries and agendas.

    3. Brief Partners and clients on policy, program and funding developments relevant to firm and client interests. 

    4. Track action items across client accounts and help ensure timely follow-up and execution.

  • Other Duties

    1. Event Planning: Work with the KHG team to develop event plans and manage logistics of off-site events.

    2. Network Development: Develop professional peer network within clients, companies, congressional offices, agencies, other consulting firms, and associations.

Candidate Requirements

  1. Based in the Washington, D.C. metro area

  2. Experience with global health and/or international development issues

  3. Minimum 5 years of Executive or Legislative Branch experience

  4. Excellent communications, social, and interpersonal skills

  5. Strong writing and research skills

  6. Highly organized and detail-oriented 

  7. Able to manage multiple work streams and meet tight deadlines 

  8. Willing to work long hours when necessary, travel, and attend high-level meetings

  9. Works well on teams, both within and outside the office

  10. Comfortable working with Congressional offices and Executive agencies

  11. Exhibits leadership, good judgment, and trustworthiness
