Position Overview

The Legislative Affairs internship position offers students an excellent opportunity to learn about the intersection between advocacy, international development organizations, foreign assistance and legislative affairs. The intern will provide assistance to KHG staff in research, ongoing advocacy initiatives, development of fact sheets, action alerts, and other advocacy materials. The intern will be responsible for remaining up to date on current political news, attending relevant congressional briefings and hearings, and drafting weekly memos and reports on congressional proceedings. 

Position Responsibilities

  • Tracking relevant legislation and amendments in foreign affairs and global health and development

  • Monitoring Congressional hearings and markups, association events, and think tank programs regarding areas of interest to client matters and write summaries for partners

  • Tracking statements from lawmakers, administration officials, and other policymakers

  • Assisting in the preparation of meetings with clients and relevant policymakers and staff

  • Helping to manage day-to-day operations, note-taking and following up on client action items

  • Drafting policy summaries, memoranda, and proposals for KHG Partners and clients

  • Event Planning: Working with the KHG team to develop event plans and manage logistics of off-site events

Qualifications

  • Qualified candidates should be enrolled in a University/College or Graduate Level Program

  • Demonstrated interest in government affairs, politics, foreign affairs, and international development

  • Possess strong research, writing, and communications skills

  • Approx 15 hours per week of remote work
